The Kiwanis Club of Canton, in addition to its many other community service projects, is dedicated to the ideals of development of leadership potential of our youth. In cooperation with the High School Faculty and Mark Passamonte, Principal of Hugh C. Williams Senior High School, and with the support of the Kiwanis Club, Anna Newman, daughter of Gene Newman and Kathleen Duffany, Canton, has been selected to participate in this year’s Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation New York State Leadership Seminar as the “ambassador” from Canton.
The criteria for selection consisted of evidence of emerging leadership ability, cooperation with fellow human beings and sensitivity to the needs of others, ability to relate to new pursuits and acquaintances, and the desire to learn and share knowledge and experience with others.
Anna will attend the New York State Leadership Seminar with other outstanding sophomores from throughout the state. At this Leadership Seminar, one boy and one girl will be selected to attend the annual all-expense paid, week long World Leadership Congress which will be held in June, 2010. Those selected to participate will interact with the top tenth graders from every state in the nation, and some twenty countries as well as prominent leaders in business, government, education and other professions. |
